I am an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) with an MSW (Masters of Social Work) and an MAED (Master of Arts in Education).
Debbie Stone Nelson (Deb) is a Florida Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She completed her MSW at St Thomas/St Catherine University in St Paul, MN with the double emphasis on domestic violence and military social work. Deb also has an MAED from Hamline University in St Paul, MN. She was a teacher for 35 years in Minnesota and began a second career as a social worker in 2015. In 2019 she moved to the Gulf Coast to enjoy the beaches, nature and shelling. Because Deb spent many years as an educator, she especially enjoys working with children and teens on school and mental health related issues. Deb began her career working in the areas of child protection, domestic violence, and trauma. She has experience working with all age groups, diverse populations, and the underserved community. Because she is passionate about lifelong learning, she is frequently taking seminars to add to her understanding and background of client issues and challenges. She uses an empowerment base model in her therapy sessions which places the client as the leader and the therapist as the supporting guide. In each session the client will be asked what his/her present needs are and the therapy session will bloom from that focus. Because each individual has different needs in their therapy journey, Deb believes it is her mission to honor the words of Nancy Levin- “Honor the space between no longer and not yet” with each individual client as the client moves to achieve his/her therapy goals. Deb believes in the power of mindfulness, meditation, bibliotherapy, guided sand tray experiences and narrative therapy as keys to working with her clients. She thoroughly enjoys matching therapy modalities to each individual client’s personal growth plan.
