Charlie Herrmann

Masters Student Intern

Charlie is a Master’s-Level Counseling Intern dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with compassion, authenticity, and evidence-based care. Charlie has a strong passion working with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Substance Use Disorders (SUD), though it doesn’t limit him in his desire to work with clients facing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship difficulties, trauma, stress, self-esteem issues, and other mental health challenges.

What sets Charlie apart is his unique perspective as someone who has also sat in the client’s chair. Having personally experienced the benefits of therapy, he understands the courage it takes to seek help and the vulnerability involved in the therapeutic process. This firsthand experience allows him to connect with clients from a place of genuine empathy, understanding, and respect.

Charlie believes that every client is one-of-a-kind. Rather than viewing people through the lens of a diagnosis, he takes the time to understand each person’s individual story, strengths, values, and goals. He does not believe in putting clients in boxes or defining them by their struggles. Instead, he works collaboratively to create a therapeutic experience tailored to the unique needs and circumstances of each individual.

His approach integrates evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), mindfulness-based interventions, and other therapeutic approaches when appropriate. By tailoring treatment to the individual, Charlie helps clients develop practical skills, greater self-awareness, and lasting resilience.

Above all, Charlie is committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel empowered to grow, heal, and create meaningful change. He believes that every person has the capacity for growth and works alongside clients to help them build fulfilling, values-driven lives.
